About the Department
Interest in foreign trade is gradually increasing upon the fact that the needs of the economic decision units are diversified continuously, people want to lead a more prosperous life and globalization makes its effect felt more and more. The increased interest in the field in question brings about the need to carry out the activities in a more effective and productive manner, which in turn leads to the demand for qualified personnel. It is this demand that makes up the core of our purpose as a program; to train the visionary pragmatists who have the theoretical and practical background matching the needs of the sector today, who can transfer the innovation into business processes and make themselves stand distinct through their duty-responsibility, who can work in different cultural spots, who can manage and rule the export and import procedures, and who can grasp the business as a whole to determine strategies.
Fields of Employment after Graduation
The Program of Foreign Trade offers its graduates a wide range of working fields. The graduates can work in global firms and in the public and private sector institutions’ units related to international trade. In this context, they can be employed by the foreign exchange units of banks, exports’ union and member institutions, free zones, Ministry of Customs and Trade, foreign representative offices of Turkey, international trade and transportation firms, and so on.
About the Courses
In their first semester, the students of the Program of Foreign Trade are taught the courses of General Economy, Business, General Accounting and Commercial Mathematics. In the remaining three semesters, however, foreign trade processes are treated as a whole and courses are centred on package programs in foreign trade, foreign trade procedures, customs clearance, vocational correspondence, international marketing and logistic regulations. In this regard, the latest innovations and developments in national and international fields are scrutinized, and the basic information acquired by the students is strengthened through examples. Not only theoretical but also practical courses in these fields are stressed in the program, and projects and internships are encouraged.
